The scent from the East
Scents of the East, tastes of distant peoples, legends of magical ingredients with miraculous properties: star anise has an origin far back in time and space, from East Asia where it originated, to the Greeks and Romans who imported it to the Western world. Healers and doctors from all parts of the world identified this star-shaped spice as a remedy for stomach ache, poor digestion, and intestinal problems. One last piece of news? A close relative of Star Anise is Green Anise, the basis for the production of Absinthe.
