The Castle Dweller
Monte Acuto: the high rock overlooking the entire Lower Piedmont. The rich and powerful established a castle there, peasants and artisans enlivened it with workshops, houses and the powerful life of small towns. Monte Acuto changed its name to Monteu Roero, the nobles left the palace; today only Valentina, the spirit that has inhabited these walls for centuries, lives in the castle. It happens, when it is darkest and there are no stars in the sky, that the castle lights come on; the people of Monteu Roero know that Valentina is awake and protecting them from other creatures of the night.
