The nobleman born from the fog

Nebbiolo: an austere name, which in those who love wine cannot but resonate with echoes of nobility. And it is precisely nobility that seems to have something to do with this name according to some scholars. In fact, the history of Nebbiolo has always been a history of richness: it cannot be otherwise for such a difficult grape variety, the first to germinate and the last to be harvested, with little spirit of adaptation to climates other than its native one, to be vinified in purity or with minimal additions to maintain all its qualities. Another origin of the name nebbiolo seems to be related to fog: both because nebbiolo harvests, far ahead in the autumn period, are done in the midst of fog, and because of the somewhat opaque appearance of the berries. In Piedmont there are five Nebbiolo DOCGs: Barbaresco DOCG, Barolo DOCG , Roero DOCG , Ghemme DOCG , Gattinara DOCG, as well as numerous DOCs.
